Since its founding in 1972, Ocean Conservancy has been a leading advocate for marine wildlife and ocean sustainability. Their Whale Protection Fund played a large role in banning commercial whaling at the international level in 1982. Now, Ocean Conservancy is leading the charge in keeping our oceans free of plastic with their Trash Free Seas® program. Its International Coastal Cleanup, which has been taking place every September for more than three decades, is an effort that spans over 100 countries and has managed to remove more than 200 million pounds of trash form our beaches.
